Is this some kind of joke?

Dear Experienced Knitters,

Are double-pointed knitters some kind of devious trick designed to insure that new knitters lose their mind, or else their eyesight? I have been trying to learn to knit socks using #2s, and HOLY MOTHER OF ALL THAT IS HOLY I AM LOSING MY MIND. I know that some of you swear by these things, but how in the world do you use them? How do your fingers not cramp up? How do you even see what you are doing?

Help me, experienced knitters. You are my only hope.

Yes, devious trick. I sat next to a woman on the train last week who was knitting a sock on DPNs - with great aplomb. She said knitting was just two sticks and a string. Okay, yeah. I haven't tried socks; I've just done hats. But the second was a lot easier than the first! I guess it's just practice.

Isis,

Well you see, you have to use the force. Turn off your navi-computer, pretend the sock is a swamp rat...

Wait, what was I talking about?

Oh heck, just buy some darn socks!

Have not dared venture into sock land yet either. But 2s??? WTF? That's just insane. I don't use anything smaller than a 5 and that's just for finishing... stick with the 7s and up and you'll feel better. How about some chunky socks?? ;)
